BMEX 2013 – A Bajan Explosion

BMEX 2013 – An Explosion of Bajan Sprit… bursting with color, flavor, design and talent at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, June 27th to 30th. This year’s BMEX Expo will be different in many ways, and one noticeable difference is the days that the show will be opened to the public. For 2013 BMEX will run from Thursday, June 27th to Sunday June 30th

Thursday June 27th and the morning of Friday June 28th will be a closed session to the public but will be a prime opportunity for Manufacturers and Producers to take part in the Barbados Public Workers Co-operative Credit Union Buyers Programme and to network with regional and international Buyers who are looking for new and exciting products for their markets. Persons interested in being a part of this programme should contact the BMA Secretariat at 426-4474 or by email intern@bma.bb.

The Expo’s outreach to the nation’s children also takes place on the June 27th where all of the schools are welcomed and encouraged to expose the children to local manufacturing and its possibilities. This year’s school’s programme is being sponsored by the City Of Bridgetown Cooperative Credit Union who will also be on hand to talk to the children about saving from an early age.

The doors will swing open to the public from noon on Friday, June 28th and patrons can expect the usual jammed pack exciting programme with something for everyone. Shining bright in the spotlight this year is the BMEX 2013 New Products Showcase.  This special feature was developed to provide an opportunity for a small cadre of manufacturers and producers to take centre stage and showcase their innovation, creativity and passion. This segment of the show reinforces the wealth of young talent in Barbados, as well as the determination and ability of these young people to become entrepreneurs despite the economic environment.  These finalists underwent a competitive process and rose as la crème de la crème for this year’s showcase; congratulations to them all.  On show will be Nadine Benn who will present a line of baking mixes, Angela Adams-Hall with her soy margarine, Debbie Waithe with her Khus Khus perfume and Marilyn Hicks and her line of gourmet sauces. Also in the spotlight are Kimtara Clarke with her gluten free high fiber snack made from coconut while Shannon Clarke highlights his Mobile App – Clever Grocer and Owen Waldron of Plant Doc presents a line of all natural plant food, soil spray and mulch.

This year’s pavilions include the brand new Furniture and Design Pavilions which will house an array of furniture, soft furnishings, jewelry, cosmetics and so much more.  The Food Pavilion will of course have a range of locally produced items for sample and for sale with a number of new and novel products expected to be on display.  The Construction Pavilion will feature the latest in construction and building materials and the Spa Products Pavilion will showcase the latest in spa and beauty products. A number of key businesses within the services industry will also be on hand to provide patrons with a variety of service offerings.

One of the highlights of BMEX every year is the nightly entertainment and this year the line-up is as exciting as ever. Bacchanal Time will appear only once this Crop Over Season and that will be at BMEX.  This group’s only live performance for 2013 is guaranteed to bring the house down and leave patrons wanting more. The must-see Fashion Show is always a crowd favourite and will be sure not to disappoint.  The Division of Fine Arts at the Barbados Community College, well known for its Fashion Portfolio will be returning this year at BMEX… the sole place to showcase the student’s flair, fashion and talent.

The Kids Junction will of course offer a safe and fun environment for children between the ages of three and twelve years while parents are free to enjoy the show. The Junction will be buzzing with arts and craft, movies, hula hoop competitions, video games and so much more; all geared for a fun time and all under the watchful eye of the Kids Junction team.

Doors open at 12:00 Noon on Friday June 28th and 10:00 am to 10:00 pm Saturday June 29th and Sunday June 30th at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. For further information contact the BMA Secretariat at 426-4474 or info@bma.bb.
