Increased exposure, Increased opportunities and an ever- increasing emphasis on Bajan manufacturing.  That sums up the objectives of BMEX 2011 which comes off June 10th to 13th at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Conference Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.

However, staging a world-class show like BMEX calls for the financial support and backing of partners to ensure that standards are maintained and that patrons receive the show they deserve.  Again this year, BMEX has been able to secure the unwavering support and commitment of a number of partners who have come on board with the single purpose of promoting and advancing Barbadian manufacturing.  One organization which has and continues to be very closely associated with BMEX is the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC).

“We are extremely pleased to have BIDC as a backbone supporter of this national premier event” said Bobbi McKay, Executive Director of the BMA “Our mandates are in sync, our visions are similar and our purpose is unified.  We are both working towards the goals of sustainable manufacturing in Barbados through providing the necessary support, exposure and opportunities to facilitate economic growth for the manufacturers and for the country.”   Ms. McKay added.

In discussion, BIDC’s Acting CEO Sonja Trotman indicated “BMEX presents a unique opportunity to see Bajan innovation at work. Several new entrepreneurs as well as longstanding producers use this annual exhibition to unveil new products and introduce them to those who visit the three-day event at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.”

“The Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC) has for several years been a major sponsor, and seeks every year to highlight some of the best in locally manufactured products amidst a lively atmosphere of entertainment, fashion shows, food and beverage sampling, and product giveaways. The BIDC is again this year providing support to BMEX in three forms; firstly with a major financial injection to assist the Barbados Manufacturers Association (BMA) in offsetting overall cost; secondly with the erection of a pavilion for new, small businesses and thirdly, as an exhibitor. “ Ms Trotman added.

The BIDC pavilion will feature seven emerging companies:  Island Treasures, the adult training school of the Challenor Creative Arts and Training Centre offering soft furnishings, wood work and Bajan confectionary; First Base, the Barbados Association for Supported Employment adult training center for the mentally and physically challenged producing candles and soft furnishings; Elgrecris Caribbean Inc., offering organic personal care products; Azipho’s Creations, producers of hand-crafted, copper jewelry, leather bags, fabric bags; I am Pure Foods, which produces Cassava flour mixes and pastry foods made from the specialty flour; EZ Learner, which specializes in educational software development and  PBHC Clinic and School of Holistic Therapies.

Also joining the sponsorship pool for the first time is Liat – The Caribbean Airline. Discussing what can be expected from this sponsor Hughvon Sealey.

Marketing Project Manager noted “ BMEX 2011 is the first year of involvement for us at LIAT The Caribbean Airline. We anticipate great returns from our participation, both in the capacity of sponsor as well as an exhibitor at this years' event. With the recent launch of LIAT Cargo, a dedicated freighter service earlier in the year, we take this as a timely opportunity to present this and many of our other initiatives and destinations primarily to the Barbadian public and as well as the regional representatives who attend to gain firsthand knowledge of what Barbados has to offer.

What also sparked our interest in BMEX is the access to showcase to the varied cross-section of consumers, manufacturers and suppliers under one roof. The event is a good forum to communicate and develop relationships with and also ascertain valued feedback from those who use our services." Sealy concluded.

Other key sponsors include Barbados Today, Digicel, the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, Starcom Network, Brands of Barbados, Barbados National Bank and Acute Vision.
