BMEX: A Celebration Of Barbadian Manufacturing
Published on May 25, 2011 by BMEX
While the benefits and successes of BMEX are many, the single over-arching goal of this national event is to celebrate the innovation, the creativity and the best that Barbadian manufacturers have to offer.

Every year, patrons and overseas buyers flock to BMEX to see the latest that the food, furniture, fashion and construction sub-sectors produce. Remarkably, locals and overseas visitors alike are awed by the variety and the quality of the products which are manufactured locally with the limited resources available on the island.

Without a doubt, BMEX is a showcase which gives patrons the opportunity to appreciate the work of various sub-sectors all at one time. If an individual is building or renovating, they can see what is available and make immediate contact with a range of suppliers, from construction materials, all the way to finishes, topped off by home furnishings, all under one roof.  Without fail, patrons are constantly blown away by the variety and quality of the merchandise available right here at home.  Visitors to the Show are often heard to comment “I did not know that you could get this here is Barbados”. This is what BMEX is about, providing the opportunity for supply and demand to come together. Local manufacturers are constantly coming up with innovative ways of using indigenous products; they are re-looking their designs and investing in new packaging. They are making their products more attractive and relevant, backed by sound craftsmanship.

The furniture sector for example, continues to grow by leaps and bounds.  Many pieces of locally designed and manufactured furniture can be found in homes and hotels, both large and small, as well as in various offices across the island.  The fashion and garment sub-sector has also carved out a name for itself and year after year one of the featured highlights, for which patrons camp out hours before, is BMEX’s renowned red hot run-way.  Many designers and young models alike have used BMEX as a launching pad for successful careers in the industry.

Another aspect of BMEX that patrons also look forward to – and which manufacturers do not fail to satisfy, is the launch or introduction of a variety of new food items to hit the market.  BMEX patrons are often the first to sample up-coming products; they have the opportunity to offer feedback and even influence the final taste of some marvelous locally produced food items.

BMEX has something for everyone, whether you are looking for ideas, building or renovating a home or commercial property; shopping for fashions and accessories, new furniture or simply looking to see what new food items will be on the market. And for those looking for an evening of entertainment, BMEX 2011 will showcase great Bajan talent on the Saturday June 11th and Sunday June 12th while there will be two fashion shows on Monday June 13th.

BMEX is a combination of our manufactured products and Barbadian culture, don’t miss it. June 10th to 13th, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.
