What's Happening
BMEX 2010 Fashion Pavilion
Published on May 18, 2010 by BMEX
The nightly shows in the Fashion Pavilion have become a prominent feature at BMEX and so this celebration of local creativity that informs and inspires design continues in high fashion and ready-to-wear street styling at BMEX 2010.

BMEX 2010 continues to keep it fresh and so the change of location of the fashion exhibition hall to the Frangipani Room at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre also signals a continued shift towards creating exciting business opportunities for customers and exhibitors alike.

Patrons have much to look forward to in the Fashion Pavilion. Each day, footage from the 2008, 2009 collections will be shown and daily at noon jewellery and accessory showcases will take place. Exhibitors from the booths will present samples for display on close circuit TV and this will be shown for patrons interested in doing business in the Fashion Pavilion.

A runway show in the evening is always the featured BMEX event and on Saturday May 22 a runway presentation will take place featuring clothing and accessories for all occasions.

On Sunday, May 23rd patrons will enjoy a Celebrity Fashion Show. Here music industry professionals and other celebrities have been invited to make appearances in outfits donated to them by local designers, walking and in some case performing their own songs. Entertainers on the runway include John King, Ayana John, Paula Hinds and the band Nexcyx. Celebrities include Hartley Alleyne, Jewel Garner and Margaret Bovell. We believe that this will make an enjoyable evening for BMEX patrons.

Monday May 24 the BMEX fashion finale will climax with two presentations. Designers will be given the opportunity to participate in a BMEX Fashion Pavilion Runway competition. In the weeks leading up to BMEX 2010, designers were each given specific criteria to create a special outfit. On the finale night, these outfits will be presented on stage before a panel of judges with winners being awarded prizes which include a fashion feature in a new catalogue to be created by the producers of the BMEX 2010 Fashion Pavilion.

The grand finale for patrons will be the master showcase collection of our Barbadian featured designer Antonio Cumberbatch. Currently completing his training in Florence Italy, Antonio is slated to present his bold new line and we anticipate that it will be a fitting finish to BMEX 2010.

The BMEX Fashion Pavilion is more than a fashion show; the primary objective is to expose new and established fashion designers of couture, garment makers, accessories and related products to the wider Barbadian public, with new energy, freshness and excitement.

The Pavilion also brings together designers and other industry enthusiasts, educators, students, and lovers of fashion from across Barbados to share their skills and talents. In so doing designers are afforded opportunities to develop catalogues, and models to develop portfolios. Finally, it exposes new model talent to the world of local fashion and to the local advertising and media network which develops new potentials for the international fashion industry.

This world-class show is the work of John Hunte and Adzil Stuart who bring a wealth of experience in the industry to the show.  John who is pursuing a PhD in cultural studies is closely aligned to Pulse Investments Group and its subsidiary Pulse Model Agency based in Kingston Jamaica. Once a former model, coordinator and choreographer for Pulse, he is now part of the annual production team for their annual events Caribbean Fashion Week and Caribbean Model Search.

Adzil Stuart is one of Barbados’ well known aestheticians and make-up artists with a trailblazing track record of excellence and expertise which he has shared with many who are now also successful in this field. With his New York Training and USA work-experience Stuart’s mission was and is to change the face of Barbadians and build a professional approach to their image.
